Albertine “Abbe” Ramseur Foster,

Widow of Dr. Marcus A Foster and former Oakland resident Albertine “Abbe” Ramseur Foster, 86, died Dec. 27 at the home of her daughter and son-in-law in Detroit, MI.
Her husband was a nationally prominent  educator and Oakland’s first African American superintendent of schools, who was assassinated in 1973 by the Symbionese Liberation Army
Abbe Ramseur was born on Dec. 15, 1925 in Cleveland County, NC. She and Marcus Foster married in 1947 in Philadelphia.
She relocated in 1970 from Philadelphia to Oakland with her husband when be became Superintendent of the Oakland Unified School District. Following Dr. Foster’s assassination in 1973, she remained as an important part of the Oakland community and was a member of the Church by the Side of the Road in Berkeley.
She lived in Oakland from until 1994.
Foster is survived by her daughter, Dr. Marsha Foster Boyd, son-in-law Reverend Kenneth Boyd and granddaughter Evette Stewart.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 12, at Taylor United Methodist Church, 1188 12th St., in Oakland. Interment will be at Mountain View Cemetery in Oakland.
