Assemblymember Sandré R. Swanson (D-Alameda) will present a Woman of the Year Award to longtime Oakland community leader Regina Jackson, executive director since 1994 of the East Oakland Youth Development Center. Jackson will receive the award during a special ceremony on the Assembly Floor in Sacramento at 11:30 a.m., Monday, March 26. The event is sponsored by the California Legislative Women’s Caucus. “Under the strong leadership of Regina Jackson, the East Oakland Youth Development Center has become a national model for youth development, drawing recognition for the incredible success of its students and the organizational excellence of its leadership,” said Swanson. “Jackson has done an incredible job of providing community engagement, youth empowerment and leadership development. She is an inspiration to young people and represents the best of Oakland and the state. I am excited to have the opportunity to recognize her amazing achievements.” Jackson has received many awards for her work, including the National Coalition for 100 Black Women Advocacy Award; Comcast Hometown Hero and KQED Unsung Hero Award; the Fannie Lou Hamer Emerging Leader Award from UC Berkeley; and the Jefferson Award for Community Service. .
