Mayflower Community Chorus Presents “All-American Music”

The 50-voice Mayflower Community Chorus

Mayflower Community Chorus is presenting all-American music in “From Sea to Shining Sea,” Friday and Saturday, May 11 and 12 at Marin Center Showcase Theatre and a week later on Sunday, May 20 at the Church of Saint Raphael, 1104 Fifth Ave. in San Rafael. Selections include the Shaker hymn “Simple Gifts,” Israel Kamakawiwo’ole’s version of “Over the Rainbow,” Samuel Barber’s “Sure on this Shining Night,” the Beach Boys’ “God Only Knows,” the “Glee” arrangement of “Jump,” and Otis Redding’s “Sitting on the Dock of the Bay” written about the chorus’ home port. Katie Carlson, 2011 winner of a Mayflower Choral Society scholarship, will appear, singing “America the Beautiful.” The chorus will hold a Saturday event for ticket-holders, featuring a free pre-performance starting at 6:30 p.m.  Adults and children will be treated to giant bubbles by Sterling Johnson (“Sterling the Bubblesmith”), plus refreshments and socializing. The 50-voice Mayflower Community Chorus began at San Rafael’s Mayflower Inne 32 years ago. Director Daniel Canosa inspires the group’s musical precision and emotional resonance for the past 12 years.
