Guice Christian Academy Career Day

By David Scott The Dr. Herbert Guice Christian Academy hosted a Career Day April 27 that included presentations by politicians, fire fighters, dentists, counselors, business owners and even aviators. The school, located 6925 International Blvd. in Oakland, was founded by the late Dr. Herbert Guice in 1996 with the help of members of Bethel Missionary Baptist Church. The academy is committed to educate and train students in a safe, creative and intellectually stimulating Christian environment that fosters the growth of self-esteem and responsibility in each student. One of the speakers was Vice-Mayor Desley Brooks, who said, “I credit my parents who encouraged me to fulfill my dreams, but it also takes a educational commitment and hard work. I think it’s important that our kids be exposed to people in their own community and the possibilities for the youth to be engaged in all walks of life.” Another speaker was retired United Airlines Aircraft Mechanic Ben Henderson, executive director of East Bay Aviators, which teaches youth ages 12-16 about  careers in aviation at The Hayward Airport.
