Richmond’s 23rd Street Merchants Association, which organizes the Bay Area’s largest annual Cinco de Mayo Festival, presented business awards on Thursday, July 12 to Chevron and two local small businesses that have contributed to the association and its community activities. Chevron is receiving Corporation of the Year award for its participation with the association and its members. Ever since the association started, Chevron has been active in the business community, attending monthly mixers, community meetings and the numerous events the association organizes. Chevron has also been a major sponsor for the association’s annual Cinco de Mayo Festival, Christmas Toy Drive, and Christmas Party held for the small business community in Contra Costa County. The two Richmond businesses receiving the Small Business of the Year Award are G&O Tires and Lilly’s Beauty Salon. Both businesses have been members of the association since it was established and have helped the small business community of West Contra Costa County thrive. Both businesses will be recognized by Congressman George Miller at the event. The event will take place from 5:30 p.m. -7:30 p.m. at 500 23rd St. in Richmond. Since its inception, the 23rd Street Merchants Association has grown to over 300 members, including businesses, nonprofit organizations and community leaders encompassing all of West Contra Costa County.
