Tuesday was opening day for the South Berkeley Farmers Market, which has moved from Derby and Martin Luther King, Jr. Way to the corner of Adeline and 63rd. streets.
The new location has the same number of vendors as before but in a larger space, making the market feel bigger and more welcoming. Organizers plan to provide organic fruit and vegetables and much more to new shoppers from South Berkeley and North Oakland.
Tempie Harris, who lives in Richmond, said she learned about the market on the internet.
“It’s great – the fruits and vegetables are wonderful, and the samples are delicious. I’ll be coming on Tuesdays,” Harris said.
The market is located just south of Alcatraz and is open Tuesdays from 2 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Besides fresh produce, eggs and cheese, the market offers ready-made food stands and local honey.
