Bishop Jackson Warns Tax Measure Misleads Bishop Jackson

Bishop Andre Jackson, Pastor of Carriage Hills Community Church in Richmond, is opposed to the soda tax on the November ballot, saying it will not do anything to reduce obesity. Bishop Jackson also says he believes the funds raised by the tax will go into the city’s general fund and will not be used for health programs. He went on to say the community should focus its efforts on health awareness and education He says the tax will not benefit local businesses or people. As a matter of fact, he said, it will be a detriment to businesses and force Richmond residents to purchase beverages and other food items from stores in neighboring cities.
