Talking Turkey With Ben Bernanke

Just days after last week’s election, members of the Greenlining Coalition – including OCCUR, El Concilio, West Angeles Church, Allen Temple Baptist Church Black Economic Council and other member organizations – met with Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke to discuss issues critical to the country’s economy and their ongoing impact on low- and moderate-income Americans. At the top of the list of issues were foreclosure, putting working class consumers in viable relationships with banks and lending institutions and increasing non-predatory access to credit. According to David Glover, OCCUR executive director, “The discussions with the   Federal Reserve and other agencies, including Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC), Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) and Security Exchange Commission (SEC) were all very fruitful and provided valuable information, not just regarding the country’s economic outlook but on expanding opportunities in employment and business for minorities and women in the years ahead.”
