Lillie Lee Mosely
Lillie Lee Mosely, an educator, long time resident of Oakland and member of St. Benedict’s Parish, died on Nov. 27. She was 102.
After retiring, Mosely moved to Hawaii to live with her sister Addie Lee Jackson. The two eventually returned to Oakland where they lived for over a decade at Lake Park Retirement Residence, where Mosely served as president of the Resident’s Council.
Born on October 26, 1910, she attended Tougaloo College Academy in Mississippi and graduated from Tougaloo Teachers College prior to earning her Masters degree at the University of Michigan.
She devoted many years of her life as an educator at Alabama State University, Booker T. Washington Business College and the Oakland Unified School District where she taught at Havenscourt Junior High School.
Her civic activities included membership in the Sojourner Truth Book Club, American Red Cross. NAACP, AARP, US Service Corps-County Defense Council, Oakland Museum Association Docents Council, Neighborhood Watch and the church.
Mosely’s most treasured membership was in Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. where she was recently honored as a Diamond Soror for more than 75 years of service.
Her love for travel took her to many places by plane, train, car, cruise ship and freighter in North and South America, Australia, New Zealand. Philippines, Asia and Africa.
Lillie “Auntie Baby” was a beloved and devoted mother, mother-in-law, aunt, great aunt, great grandaunt, cousin, great godmother and a special and sincere friend to many others.
She leaves behind her son Harris Lovell Mosely and wife Prima; nephew Jem Hing Lee and wife Frankie to mourn along with a host of others.
She is predeceased by her husband, Harris Lovell Mosely, Sr.; her parents, Jim Hing Lee and Addie E. James Lee; sisters Lucile Eula Lee, Jeanette Gunty Lee and Addie K. Lee Jackson; and brothers Jung Dannie Lee and Arke Edward Lee.
