The Richmond City Council has recognized Alexis Pickins who will represent Richmond in the 2013 Miss California and Miss Black California Pageants.
In addition to receiving a proclamation on Nov. 27 from the City Council, the Richmond native is a senior at the University of California Berkeley where she is majoring in environmental economics and policy with a minor in African American studies.
She has also been recognized with the National Scholar and Athlete Award. She hopes to pursue a graduate degree in urban sustainability and labor law.
Actively engaged in public service, Pickins is involved a number of local charities and agencies including the Greater Richmond Interfaith Program, Black Women Organized for Political Action, the Aftershocks American Basketball Association basketball team.
She is also an assistant cheerleading coach at Richmond High School, her alma mater.
