In its continued effort to diversify Oakland’s teaching workforce, Teach Tomorrow in Oakland will host teacher recruitment fairs on two Thursdays, Jan. 10 and Jan. 24 at McClymonds High School 2607 Myrtle St., Room 116, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in Oakland. Begun as a partnership between Mayor Ron Dellums’ office and the Oakland Unified School District (OUSD), TTO is committed to recruiting and retaining outstanding teachers who reflect the ethnic and cultural diversity of the city. The program provides intensive instructional and classroom management training, individualized tutoring for CBEST/CSET passage, support obtaining the teaching credential that continues throughout the first five years of teaching, and guidance throughout the OUSD hiring process. Extremely proud of its accomplishments, TTO placed 20 new, diverse, local teachers in Oakland classrooms for the 2011- 2012 school year. To-date, that totals 63 diverse teachers who are currently working in OUSD. Since 2008, TTO has operated under funding from the Teel Family Foundation, Federal Transition to Teach program, and the Packard Foundation. Individuals interested in attending teacher recruitment fair are asked to RSVP to www.register4tto2013.eventbrite.com, email Kelly Leonard at kellyleonard@OUSD.k12.ca.us or call (510) 273-2339.
