5 Arrested in Shootings of Oakland Police Officers

Five men are facing charges in the shootings of two Oakland police officers. Nathaniel Joseph Cook was charged with attempted murder, robbery and assault in the shooting on Friday of officer D’Vour Thurston. Cook is accused of shooting Thurston in the leg as he and another officer were chasing the suspect in the Fruitvale district of Oakland. Four others were arrested in the shooting of undercover officer Eric Karsseboom on Jan. 21 in East Oakland. Deante Kincaid and Damien Edward McDaniel both were charged with second-degree robbery, assault on a police officer with a semi-automatic firearm and being a felon in possession of a firearm. In addition, Purvis Lamar Ellis, and Joseph Pennymon were charged with violating parole and being felons in possession of firearms. All the suspects are in custody.
