Hayward Teacher Named California History Teacher of The Year

Tennyson High School Teacher Miroslaba “Lili” Velo from Hayward has been named the Outstanding Senior High School History Teacher of the Year by the California Council for the Social Studies. The award recognizes Velo’s leadership in advancing social studies education through engaging activities for Hayward youth, and developing innovative history curricula and teaching techniques for social studies educators across the state. As the Social Studies Department Chair at Tennyson High School, Velo leads the school’s social studies teaching practices and works with students of all levels, including advanced placement and English Learners. She also shares teaching techniques with middle and high school history teachers through countywide social studies initiatives and presents at statewide conferences.
