After learning of a recent break-in at the Richmond Little League’s Nichol Park concession stand, Lefty O’Doul’s Foundation for Kids presented coach and league Vice President Thomas Gary with a $1,500 check to recover stolen equipment and concessions.
The foundation also treated players to dinner and provided them with commemorative t-shirts and hats.
“I was in Los Angeles when I got the Google alert about the break-in. When the coach said the season may be over, my first response was we have got to do something,” said Nick Bovis, president of Lefty O’Doul’s Foundation for Kids.
“The Lefty O’Doul’s Foundation for Kids specializes in giving equipment to kids in need. We see baseball as a tool to build morals in kids, and we realize how costly the equipment is,” he said.
“Richmond Little League Baseball and Softball appreciates the Lefty O’Doul’s Foundation for Kids support,” said league Vice President Gary.
“The foundation’s contribution will not only fund our equipment needs but help us continue to keep more than 300 Richmond kids safe and off the streets.”
Gary and other league officials are exploring ways the foundation can help secure the concession stand and even improve the Nichol Park Baseball fields.
In the meantime, the team will be storing concession items and equipment at a secured off-site location.
