The California Retired Teacher Association of West Contra Costa, Division # 58, keeps giving to the local schools and other activities by volunteering time and talents long after retirement.
Nancy Hendrickson, committee co-chair, said members are encouraged to complete an annual survey of volunteer hours, and this year the retired teachers are very proud of their accomplishment, tallying more than 52,000 hours of volunteer service to local schools, PTAs, service club activities, tutoring and family care.
CalRTA urges all of its members to take time to make a difference in the lives of those who can benefit by their help.
According to committee co-chair Elizabeth Underwood, the West County community benefits greatly from these volunteer efforts. These volunteer hours represent a donation to the community of an estimated half million dollars or more.
