Dr. Smith Preaches Mills Grove Homecoming Anniversary Sermon

The 38th Homecoming and Anniversary Celebration for Mills Grove Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) starts Friday, May 17, and continues on Saturday through Sunday, May 19. Rev. Eloise Knox, pastor of the Bell Chapel C.M.E. Church, San Francisco, will preach the opening sermon at 6:00p.m. Servant B.K. Woodson of Bay Area Christian Connection will speak at 7:30p.m. On Saturday at 8:30a.m., Dr. Mary Donovan-Turner, Dean DSF/PSR will present a Bible Lecture on the theme: “Lord, Teach Us to Pray!”  Six workshops will begin from 9:30a.m. – 11:30a.m. Rev. Mary Jacobs, Transitional Interim Regional Minister of the Christian Church of Northern California-Nevada will facilitate a session on Disciples of Christ Polity & History. Ms. Amy Fitzgerald, Executive Director of the Oakland Community Organizations will lead a discussion on public safety. Rev. Phil Lawson and Rev. Sandhya Jha, Interfaith Program Director of the East Bay Housing Organizations, will present information on Housing, Sabbath/Affordable Homes. Sister Brenda J. Barnes, Former OUSD Teacher and member of the MGCC (DOC) Diaconate will share her gifts with arts & crafts for youth and their parents.  Rev. Khalia Jelks, PhD., Graduate Student at the Berkeley Graduate Theological Union, will lead a Liturgical Dance Class.    Brother Nathan Roos, IT Director Marin General Hospital will engage youth and young adults in conversations on bullying and other culturally sensitive issues. Rev. Cheryl D. Ward, Associate Pastor of City of Refuge Church, San Francisco, will preach the closing Revival Sermon at 11:30a.m. The Revival Services will conclude with a lunch at 12:30p.m. On Sunday, May 19th the Rev. Dr. J. Alfred Smith, Sr., Pastor Emeritus of Allen Temple Baptist Church will preach the 38th Homecoming/Anniversary Sermon during the 11:00a.m. Worship Service will be conducted by Elder Ralph Lakes Chairman of the Board of Directors and Rev. Clarence L. Johnson, Sr. Minister and Pastor.
