“A family affair” was how Supervisor John Avalos of San Francisco’s District 11 described Dr. Annette Shelton and her grandson Donald Andrews as he presented them with the Small Business of the Year Award on May 14 at San Francisco City Hall. Each year, the San Francisco Board of Supervisors and Mayor recognize a local small business with a recognition ceremony during Small Business Week, which took place May 13 to May 19 this year. Shelton is the owner of Vali of the Dolls Hair and Nail Salon, which has been in the Ocean View, Merced, and Ingleside District for 40 years. Andrews opened the Dream Team Runway clothing store in the same district as his grandmother and is celebrating one and a half years of business. Shelton says she is proud to have her grandson open a business in the same complex where Vali of the Dolls is located.
