These health tips are presented by the Bay Area Media Mission-KDYA 1190AM, The Post News Group, and The Richmond Main Street Initiative (RMSI)-to help raise awareness and reduce the risks of breast cancer.
Studies have shown that certain lifestyle changes can decrease the risks, such as:
Breastfeeding-this may play a role in breast cancer prevention.
Limit your dose and duration of hormone therapy. Combination hormone therapy increases the risk of breast cancer when taken for more than three to five years.
Avoid exposure to radiation and environmental pollution. Medical-imaging methods use high doses of radiation; reduce your exposure by having tests done only when absolutely necessary.
Program sponsor RMSI highlights the importance of making healthy choices by offering fresh fruit and vegetables at the Farmer’s Stand in downtown Richmond every First Friday of the month. Also, look for The Farmer’s Market every Wednesday now through October 30 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in downtown Richmond.
