“Ancestral Memories,” African American Quilt Show

The African American Quilt Guild of Oakland is hosting a quilt show, “Sankofa: Preserving our Past, Designing our Future”, on Saturday, June 15 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Allen Temple Baptist Church, 8501 85th Ave. in Oakland. More than 100 quilts made by members of the guild will be on exhibit with designs ranging from traditional to more abstract styles reflecting African roots.  Special exhibits entitled “Ancestral Memories” will be on display as well as quilts made by Oakland youth. Door prizes will be given away and “PRISMS,” a quilt made by a guild member, will be raffled off at the event. Vendors will be selling fabric, garments, jewelry and books.
