LaVontae Renee Hill graduated from Kennedy High School with top honors.Hill is the only African-American male in his class to win this recognition. He will attend Sacramento State University this fall and is considering majoring in nursing.
Hill, who grew up in a single-parent home, attributes his academic success to the teaching and support provided by his mother.
“My mother did everything possible to keep my brother and I on a path to success,” he said. “I think that having a mother who played a vital role in my upbringing molded me to reciprocate what I had received.”
Hill has consistently been on the honor roll from eighth through twelfth grades. Already giving back to the community, he is a volunteer tutor at the local YMCA, teaching math and coaching basketball and flag football to younger students.
