Local Students Win North Shattuck Chalk Art Contest

IXCACAO by Alegra Figeroid and Zoe Turin.

Alegra Figeroid and Zoe Turin of Berkeley took first place and $250 in the Chalk Art Contest at the Chocolate & Chalk Art Festival in the Gourmet Ghetto on North Shattuck Avenue last week.Their chalk drawing, IXCACAO, which the 16-year olds worked on for over five hours, delighted the judges.Alegra & Zoe are both students at Oakland School of the Arts and were encouraged by their teacher to come to the festival and show their talent on the sidewalk.
Not only is the artwork thematic, but drawing a figure with the correct perspective is incredibly difficult.
Those who attended the festivals visited local businesses to sample chocolates, such as salted caramel éclairs, habanero chocolate gelato, goat cheese truffles or chicken mole and had a chance to enjoy more than 250 pieces of original chalk art.
Sponsored by the North Shattuck Association and produced by Another Bullwinkel Show, the event is now in it’s 17th year. Photos of all of the winners can be viewed at www.AnotherBullwinkelShow.com, and honorable mentions are on the Chocolate and Chalk Art Facebook page.
