Richmond resident TyJae’ Chenevert received a full athletic scholarship to Louisiana Tech University this fall to play the position of ‘starting center’ for the Lady Techsters.

Chenevert, a rising junior, will transfer to LA Tech after playing a highly successful sophomore season at Diablo Valley Junior College in Pleasant Hill.

Chenevert led her team to an 18-11 victory this past year and a 9-5 ranking in the Big 8 Conference.

“I felt really comfortable with the team and the coaching staff. LA Tech is where I need to be to play my last two years. I want to go to the next level,” she said.

Chenevert ranked as the 36th in the nation and the 7th in her position, according to Dan Olson’s Collegiate Girls Basketball Report.

A John F. Kennedy High School alumnus, she was a played on the varsity at the high school for four years and was instrumental in leading the Eagles to the state playoffs for two years.

She is a two-time MVP and all-around athlete, who also was actively involved in softball and track and field at Kennedy.

Chenevert already has earned an associate’s degree in Sports Medicine and will pursue a bachelor’s degree in Sociology or Child Psychology.
