Family and friends recently celebrated the 95th birthday of Floria “Mother” Evans.
An active member of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, 380 S. 17th St. in Richmond, where Rev. J.W. Montgomery is pastor, Evans has served as a member of the Usher Board, Mothers’ Board, Benevolence Committee and wherever else she is needed in the church.
Born and raised in Lewisville, Arkansas on Aug. 10, 1918, to the late Johnny and Emma Ford, she moved to Richmond in 1942, with her late husband, Joseph C. Evans.
Soon after arriving, she joined Antioch M.B.C.
Evans is well known all over Richmond for her generous ways and kindness. She has a reputation as a mentor, a prayer warrior and as someone who offers a hand to hold.
She has opened her home to those who needed a place to stay and is known for providing a good home cooked meal, especially on Sundays, when she feeds the whole neighborhood. She has the assistance of her sons who help prepare the meals.
Evans has 11 children: 7 sons and 3 daughters. One daughter passed at an early age.
