The UNCF’s (United Negro College Fund) “Empower Me” Tour will come to West County on Saturday, September 14th at Contra Costa College, 2600 Mission Bell Drive in San Pablo, from 9am to 3:30pm. The event is free and open to the public.

Now in its six year, the nationwide Tour was created by the UNCF to empower a movement committed to developing a robust college-going culture among students of color.

The nationwide tour will give students in Richmond a chance to meet with college recruiters, learn how to build a resume, receive resources about financing a college education, and discover scholarship and internship opportunities. It is the tour’s only stop in Northern California; the only other West Coast stop will be in Los Angeles on October 19th.

Adam Taylor, the executive director for K-12 schools at the West Contra Costa Unified School District, said this event aligns with the school district’s goal to empower all students of color.

“This is a great resource for students because it provides them with the information that allows them to recognize that obtaining a college degree is possible,” Taylor said. “A lot of our underrepresented students don’t realize that college is financially possible for them.”

All students are encouraged to attend the UNCF’s “Empower Me” tour on Saturday, September 14th at Contra Costa College, 2600 Mission Bell Drive in San Pablo, from 9am to 3:30pm. The event is free to the public.
