Williams Chapel Baptist Church Celebrates Newly Remodeled Chapel

Williams Chapel Baptist Church recently had a face-lift as the historical church was remodeled inside and out with a grand sanctuary and stair lift to accommodate elder and handicapped members.

Located in Oakland’s San Antonio district on the corner of 10th Ave. and International Boulevard, the church will turn 75 in 2014.

Rev. Kenneth Anderson, senior pastor, says the church looks forward to more renovations that will enable it to house community programs – including literacy, drug recovery, and HIV awareness programs – and full-service childcare to open next year, to be called “Where Children Become Champions.”

The church has also partnered with a neighboring health clinic to provide parking for patients in the church lot during their visits and receive spiritual support when needed.

“Its ministry,” Anderson said. “That’s how the church is going to grow. It’s a mindset to reach the lost at any cost.”

Anderson, a fifth generation preacher and the nephew of the late Rev. Carl Anderson who was the pastor of Greater St. John Baptist Church in Oakland, will be celebrating his second anniversary after succeeding former pastor Rev. H.L. Hudson.

The anniversary service will be held Sunday, Oct. 20 at 3 p.m. at Williams Chapel, 1410 10th Ave. in Oakland.
