Living Jazz will present “In the Name of Love”, The 12th Annual Musical Tribute honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Sunday, Jan. 19, 7 p.m. at the Oakland Scottish Rite Center, 1547 Lakeside Drive in Oakland.
The annual tribute will feature singer/songwriter/actor Martin Luther McCoy, along with the Marcus Shelby Jazz Orchestra featuring Faye Carol and premiering a new body of work supported by the East Bay Community Foundation written specifically for this event; the 55-voice Oakland Interfaith Gospel Choir; and the 300-voice Oakland Children’s Community Choir under the musical direction of Melanie DeMore and backed up by the Oaktown Jazz Workshops.
Archival footage of Dr. King’s moving oratories will be interspersed throughout the evening, and the Oakland Citizen Humanitarian Award will be presented to an Oakland citizen working tirelessly to make a difference.
