The Third Annual Be-The-Dream Awards Celebration in Marin featuring keynote speaker Van Jones, a host on CNN and author of “Rebuilding The Dream,” will be held Wednesday, Jan. 15 at the Embassy Suites Hotel, 101 McInnis Parkway in San Rafael.
The celebration, hosted by Marin Grassroots, will start at 8 p.m. Sponsorships, tickets and tables to this event are available, and can be reserved at www.maringrassroots.org. Be the Dream awardees will be announced.
Van Jones, a Yale-educated attorney, is a champion of solutions for the middle class in America. He is a host of Crossfire on CNN and author of The Green Collar Economy (2008) and Rebuild the Dream (2012), both of which were best-selling books.
Jones is a senior fellow with the Center for American Progress and focuses on policy matters related to green jobs and how cities are implementing job-creating climate solutions, according to CNN.com.
He has also founded and led four not-for-profit organizations that engage in social and environmental justice: Rebuild the Dream, the Ella Baker Center for Human Rights, Color of Change, and Green for All.
He was also main advocate for the Green Jobs Act, which was signed into law by George W. Bush in 2007. The law was the first piece of federal legislation to codify the term “green jobs,” and has resulted in $500 million in national funding for green jobs training during the Obama Administration.
