The internationally acclaimed African Children’s Choir will again perform in concert Sunday, January 19 at 10 a.m. at The Church by the Side of the Road at 2108 Russell Street in Berkeley.
The program features li African songs and dances, including children’s songs, traditional spirituals and gospel favorites. The concert is free and open to all.
The African Children’s Choir has performed before presidents, heads of state and most recently the Queen of England, Queen Elizabeth II, for her Diamond Jubilee. The choir has sung alongside artists such as Paul McCartney, Annie Lennox, Keith Urban, Mariah Carry and Michael W. Smith.
“As a people of the African Diaspora, it is appropriate that the historically rich The Church by the Side of the Road welcome these talented young disciples to perform at our church, as it is the African heritage of rhythm and tonality that is the root of so much of our music, be it jazz, bebop, ragtime, rhythm & blues, hip-hop or the spirituals and gospel we sing in our churches today,” said The Church by the Side of the Road’s senior pastor Rev. Dr. Ambrose F. Carroll Sr.
The African Children’s Choir is a nonprofit humanitarian and relief organization dedicated to helping Africa’s most vulnerable children today so they can help Africa tomorrow. A free will offering will be taken at the concert to support the African Children’s Choir programs, such as education, care and relief and development programs.
