If you know anything about football, you know Marshawn Lynch, and if you’re from Oakland, you’ve been rooting for him since his high school days.

Lynch is a native of Oakland and graduated from Oakland Technical High School. In his senior year in 2003, he ran for more than 1,700 yards and had 23 touchdowns in only eight regular season games. He was recruited to UC Berkeley and started in 2004.

In 2007, he entered the draft and was a first round draft pick to the Buffalo Bills. Lynch was later traded to the Seattle Seahawks where he has continued to grow and mature as a professional player. Since 2011, he has had consecutive seasons where has ran for more than 1,000 yards. He is known by his nickname “Beast Mode” for his aggressive playing nature – running through tackles and making extraordinary plays.

Now completing his 7th season in the league, Lynch earned his first football championship ring, after the Seahawks dominated and defeated the Denver Broncos 43-8 in last Sunday’s game. Lynch serves as a reminder to all Oakland youth that dreams can become a reality with preparation, determination, and hard work.

Jamelle Banks is the god brother of Lynch and they both attended Oakland Tech at the same time. He went to New York to support Lynch and celebrated with him after the game.

“I’m just extremely happy for him because he’s been through a lot,” said Banks. “To finally see him get what he deserves is just a blessing.”
