Xi Gamma Omega (“XGO”) chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority hosted at “Day at Oakland City Hall” to convene with Mayor Jean Quan and City Council members to discuss community issues and how Alpha Kappa Alpha could partner with city government to improve delivery of city services.
Keytopics were how best to make Oakland a cleaner city and a safer city. Jobs and education were also a focus as Mayor Quan discussed the “Cease Fire” program. Mayor Quan said, “I commend the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority for being leaders in education and the community. I am happy to know that they are taking on tough issues in the City like human trafficking. I look forward to working with them to mentor and educate our young people in Oakland.”
Sorority members also met with Councilmembers Noel Gallo, Dan Kalb, Larry Reid, Libby Schaff, and Lynette McElhaney.
Councilmember Desley Brooks supported the “Day at Oakland City Hall” by coordinating the meetings with the Mayor and City Council members. The meetings were followed by a reception attended by Treva Reid, district staff member for Assembly Nancy Skinner. Nyeisha DeWitt, district staff member for Assembly Rob Bonta, and city staff.
