The John F. Kennedy Library in Vallejo hosted a concert with local guitarist Leo Cavanaugh, as part of a yearlong string of events celebrating the Solano County Library 100th Anniversary.
Several political leaders, library officials and staffers, and volunteers are expected to attend.
Guitarist Leo Cavanagh performs, composes, and teaches music in Vallejo. He is also the author of “Beyond Power Chords,” an instruction book available nationally.
Librarians noted one of the biggest influences on the library system has been technology which allowed people to borrow films, send faxes, play with video cassettes and cameras and later on to use computers and surf the Internet.
Today, many research materials are online so they can be instantly updated, and many libraries have banks of computers so that people can go online for research, apply for jobs and conduct other business.
The celebration comes before National Library Week, April 13 to 19, and begins a yearlong string of anniversary events, including Suisun City Library’s birthday party on June 14; an anniversary party for families July 8 at the Vacaville Public Library-Cultural Center; and the Fairfield Library Literacy Services Anniversary on Sept. 8 at the County Government Center.
