The Marin City Summer Program will start on June 23.
The Marin City Community Services District (MCCSD) will host its annual summer camp for children ages 5 to 13 from June 23 to Aug. 15 at the Manzanita Recreation Center at 630 Drake Ave. in Marin City.
This year’s camp will operate under the name Summer Sports Zone. The focus will be health, wellness, and fitness. Youths will participate in activities such as athletic training and competition, arts and crafts.
Partners to the program will include Bridge the Gap College Prep with The Little Readers and Little Matheletes program, and the Marin Theater Company with their acting seminars.
The Night Train Swimmers will sponsor life skills and swimming lessons.
There will be nature walks and field trips to Marin County Parks and open spaces, and to places like the Marin County Fair and Six Flags Marine World.
The Marin City CX3 Project will hold nutrition classes.
“The programming aims to ensure children are thriving, safe, healthy, and included during the summer as recreational activities are essential to promote the overall health and wellness of our population,” explains MCCSD General Manager Johnathan Logan Jr.
“Summer is the most exciting time of year as we get to engage the kids all day in diverse and fun programming”, says Recreation Coordinator, Paul Austin.
“We strive at CSD to ensure the program is affordable for all and open to Marin City youth as well as youth from neighboring cities,” says Nancy Johnson, MCCSD Board Chairperson, “we are always looking for sponsors and additional partners to enhance our programming to reach more youth.”
In addition to activities, youth will receive a healthy breakfast and lunch daily provided by Revolution Foods. The USDA through the California Department of Education Summer Food Service Program generously subsidizes the cost of meals. All youth to 18 years-old, and even non-campers, are invited to join for meals at no cost. Breakfast will be served from 8:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. and lunch will be served from 12:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. daily.
