Kevin Burkes recently graduated from River City High School in West Sacramento with a 3.75 GPA.
Born in Oakland and raised in Pittsburgh, Burkes has been athletic his entire life, playing such sports basketball, football, and wrestling. He continued to play football in high school and was also captain of the school’s Air Force JROTC Program, which emphasizes the Air Force heritage and traditions, the development of flight, applied flight sciences, military aerospace policies, and space exploration.
Burkes was accepted into the United States Air Force Academy Preparatory School and will be heading to Colorado Springs, Colorado in July to begin the journey. Upon successful completion of prep school, Burkes will be eligible for acceptance into the Air Force Academy – his lifelong dream.
He says he wants to go to the academy because it is a “symbol of leadership”.
“I want to continue the legacy of the Tuskegee Airman [and hope] to inspire other young men to want to do better and make a difference,” said Burkes
