Mayor Jean Quan, along with education leaders, faith leaders, city staff and the Black Young Democrats of the East Bay presented a resolution to the City Council Tuesday honoring the outgoing Superintendent of the Oakland Unified School District, Dr. Gary Yee, and welcoming incoming Superintendent Antwan Wilson.

We thank outgoing Superintendent Gary Yee for stepping up at a key time and providing steady leadership for the past year, Quan said.

Dr. Yee has dedicated a lifetime of service to the Oakland Public Schools – as a student, teacher, principal, administrator and School Board Director for 10 years.

Superintendent Wilson was the unanimous choice of the OUSD Board of Education as the district’s next superintendent. He started this week. He comes to Oakland from the Denver Public Schools, where he was known as a thoughtful advocate for educational equality, focusing on school improvement efforts and supporting student achievement
