Jackie Shonerd, Region 4 After School Program Coordinator, has been honored as a 2014 Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) Woman of the Year by Assemblywoman Nancy Skinner’s STEM Woman of the Year program recognizing women and organizations making groundbreaking contributions.
Shonerd has dedicated over 30 years of her career to developing educational opportunities for underserved youth, with an emphasis in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). She has touched the lives of thousands of students and educators as a teacher, professional development trainer, administrator and youth advocate to bring STEM education opportunities and resources in classroom, and most recently in after school programs.
As the Region 4 After School Program Coordinator, she works to provide training, leadership and collaboration for after-school administrators across seven Bay Area counties.
Through partnerships with organizations including the Gateway East Bay STEM Network, a California State University East Bay program to improve educational outcomes in STEM, Shonerd has helped lead a number of initiatives to create sustainable STEM programs aligned with Common Core State Standards and Next Generation Science Standards in Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, San Francisco, San Mateo and Solano Counties.
