The African American Wellness Project held a reception recently for its new its new executive director, Kevin Nichols.
At the event held July 16th at the Imagine Affairs Art Lounge in Oakland, community members had the opportunity to meet Nichols, learn about the Wellness Project’s initiatives and discuss partnership opportunities.
“My goal is to raise awareness about health disparities affecting African Americans,” Nichols said. “ I hope to use television and social media to reduce these disparities. Our goal is to get as many people enrolled in Covered California as possible, inform community members about recent Medicaid expansion and help them navigate enrollment.”
The Wellness Center has regular programing on a number of local radio stations. Daily health tips, “Take a Minute for your Health,” are featured daily on KBLX and syndicated on KPFA, KDIA and KDYA.
Nichols has worked in the past at major international law firms, including Morrison & Foerster, Paul Hastings, Heller Ehrman, and Holland & Knight. He is a social networking expert consultant specializing in litigation technology (eDiscovery), diversity, and social media marketing for the legal industry.
He is involved with many community organizations including the National Society of Black Engineers and The Berkeley Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., Build and Leadership Excellence.
