The San Leandro Public Library will host Sam Kean, author of the New York Times bestselling book “The Disappearing Spoon: And Other True Tales of Madness, Love, and the History of the World from the Periodic Table of the Elements.”
The event will take place on Wednesday Aug. 13, beginning at 7 pm at the Main Library, located at 300 Estudillo Ave. in downtown San Leandro.
As a child, Kean spent years collecting mercury from broken thermometers and presently works as a writer, based in Washington, D.C.
His work has appeared in the New York Times Magazine, Mental Floss, Slate, and Science Magazine, and has been featured on NPR’s “Radiolab” and “All Things Considered.”
About “The Broken Spoon,” Publisher’s Weekly declared: “With a constant flow of fun facts bubbling to the surface, Kean writes with wit, flair, and authority in a debut that will delight even general readers.”
This program is being presented as part of San Leandro Reads, a citywide program that encourages residents to read and discuss the same book.
