Over 500 people turned out for The 100 Black Men of the Bay Area, Inc.’s “25th Annual Scholarship Benefit & Awards Gala” on Saturday, Dec 14 at the San Francisco Marriot Marquis.

Hosted by actor Obba Babatunde, the event raised money for the chapter’s Scholarship program. All event proceeds will benefit the chapter’s scholarship program, which provides mentorship programs and educational scholarships for Bay Area students throughout the year.

“The Scholarship Program is an umbrella for multiple scholarship programs,” said Danny Williams, chapter member and chairman of the 2013 Gala Committee. “Our dedicated community partners continue to make contributions that help us provide scholarship and mentoring programs for our community that is so desperately needed.”

Before the gala began, attendees were able to attend a pre-reception and participate in a silence auction.

Along with the awards presentation during the gala ceremony, attendees enjoyed a performance by acclaimed singer and San Francisco native, Chanté Moore .

Awardees included Harold W. Orr Jr. MD, Regional Director for Corizon Health, recipient of the Community Service Award; Joe Morgan, Major League Baseball Hall of Famer, recipient of the Legend Award; and, Rufus Coleman who received the Member of the Year Award.
