Youth UpRising Hosts Arts Open House, March 29

Youth Uprising at 8711 MacArthur Blvd. in East Oakland.

In the wake of a year of unprecedented violence, which ultimately led to the murder of four Youth UpRising youth members, the agency is showcasing young artists who will display their artwork focused on community violence.
The open house will be held Friday, March 29 from 3 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at Youth Uprising at 8711 MacArthur Blvd. in East Oakland.
The event will feature the unveiling and auction of student paintings; album release party and performances from the Youth UpRising social conscious mixtape:  “Bad gon’ Good”, a student video game expo and competition, premiere of  “Love or Guns,” a music video previously featured on KBLX radio; and premiere of “Life of a Gun,” a short film about the experiences that lead to young people getting guns and the mental process it takes to commit acts of violence.
The event also will feature a photo booth and free food as well as information about Youth UpRising’s spring programming for youth.
Youth UpRising is a  nationally recognized organization, providing services and leadership development programs. Since 2005, Youth UpRising  has worked with over 5,700 youth and young adults.
