E.C. Reems Academy Says Support Music Instead of Guns


Celebrity artists are coming together to help the E.C. Reems Academy of Technology and Art and the Center of Hope church to restore peaceful alternatives against violence.

The school and church in Oakland, founded by Bishop E.C. Reems, are reaching out to all businesses, professional athletic programs and law enforcement to assist in the rebuilding of local communities, which have been suffering from violence, murder and murders and other crimes.

Local pianist and producer Ricardo Scales will support the music education program at the academy and its community outreach with a special holiday celebration, “The True Gift of Christmas,” Sunday, Dec. 22 at 5 p.m. at 8411 MacArthur Blvd. in Oakland.

Guest artists at this event are: Bay Area percussionists Pete Escovedo and family; Dorothy Morrison of “O Happy Day” fame (now singing with Huey Lewis); Harvey Scales; Tenina Stephens (renowned as artist “Suga T”); Destiny Knuckles; and the Ricardo Scales Ensemble and Center of Hope Orchestra; and a special guest appearance by actor Danny Glover.

This musical extravaganza will also feature the Center of Hope choirs, the E.C. Reems Academy choir “Lions for Change,” Dr. Alberta Rose and the Village Dancers.

The event is organized under the leadership of Bishop E.C. Reems, Pastors Brondon and Maria Reems of Center of Hope church and the Directors of E.C. Reems Academy; CEO Lisa Blair and Principal Dr. Paul Organ.
