OP-ED: CEO of Richmond Community Foundation to Step Down

By Joan Davis

After five incredible years as President and CEO of the Richmond Community Foundation, I am stepping down from this position at the end of this month.

I’m excited about being able to take some time to decompress, travel and relax. Then maybe I’ll figure out how to channel this wonderful experience into something else productive and beneficial to our community.

While I will miss those I have had the good fortune to work with, the time has now come for me to redirect my energy to personal pursuits.

Working together – donors, staff, community based organizations, local government, businesses, volunteers and residents – we have built a strong philanthropic and service foundation positively impacting thousands of lives and families in the greater Richmond community as well as throughout Contra Costa County.

I am truly proud of the impact the Richmond Community Foundation has made since its inception as the Richmond Children’s Foundation in 1999, and, particularly, over the last five years.

We have put a stake in the ground around capacity building for our nonprofit community, and have been the ‘backbone’ for collaborations formed to address important issues that impact our residents.

I will miss sharing the amazing passion of our partners who are harnessing the power of collective impact for the betterment of our communities.

It has been a pleasure to work with such a talented team of individuals on the RCF staff and Board of Directors. Their collective dedication and commitment to RCF have provided invaluable guidance and support over the years. Together, we have established a philanthropic and leadership-oriented foundation that positively impacts thousands of lives and families in the broader Richmond community.

I am excited about the future of the Richmond Community Foundation and its continued commitment to using the power of philanthropy to build strong, healthy communities. You can continue to be proud that you are connected with the Foundation as a local resource for individuals, families, businesses, and nonprofit organizations.

My last day at the Foundation will be Jan. 31. However, as a Richmond resident, I will remain connected and active in our community! It has been an honor and a privilege to serve you.
