Hundreds of people attended the “Behind the Curtain” Gala Saturday night at the Craneway Pavillion hosted by Mario Lopez featuring a fashion show and concert.
The event was sponsored by the non-profit organization Unite4:Good, featuring performances from singer Miguel, R&B group Mindless Behavior and local youth ambassador Sydney Nycole.
“Behind the Curtain” was part of Unite4:Good’s national “Day of Unity” celebration, which includes service activities during the day, such as painting murals to art therapy workshops. The activities are focused on giving people the opportunity to share through creative expression.
“Day of Unity is about supporting and recognizing those individuals from all walks of life who are making a difference in their communities,” said Unite4:good Founder and global philanthropist, Anthony Melikhov.
“By rolling this event out, we are uniting our nation, one community at a time and encouraging everyone to make a commitment of support, service or contribution,” he said.
Young men and women from several East Bay community organizations participated in a fashion show, working the catwalk. The event hosted organization and schools including Berkeley Youth Alternative, Scholar Athletes, and the Richmond Police Activities League.
The event also honored actor Blair Underwood, who has developed partnerships with the participating nonprofit organizations. A portion of the proceeds from ticket sales will benefit those groups.
