The Epsilon Phi Zeta Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Incorporated celebrated their 35th anniversary with the Christian Woman of the Year Awards and Scholarship Luncheon last week at Hs’ Lordship Restaurant in Berkeley.
Zeta Phi Beta is an international, historically black Greek-lettered sorority and a member of the National Pan-Hellenic Council. The organization has over 800 chapters world-wide and maintains affiliations with organizations such as American Diabetes Association, March of Dimes, American Cancer Society, American Red Cross, National Council of Negro Women and the United Negro College Fund
Themed “Christian Women Serving in God’s Vineyard,” hundreds gathered to celebrate nine distinguished community members from Bay Area Churches. Honorees included Billie L. Allen of Mt. Zion Baptist Church; Arsie L. Anderson of St. James A.M.E. Church; Deborah Gardner of Parks Chapel A.M.E. Church; Marie F. Johnson of Allen Temple Baptist Church; Mary Madden of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church; Helen M. Palmer Tucker of Church of Living God; Phebia Richardson of Downs Memorial United Methodist Church; Lynne N. Wheelock of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church; and, Havis White-Blanchard of Imani Community.
Proceeds from the luncheon will benefit the chapter’s college scholarship program.
“This is a great way to recognize women in the community and raise much needed college funds for deserving young women,” said Chapter Member Zeola Slaughter.
