Two Marin City Students to Study in England This Summer

While many middle school students are looking forward to some time away from their studies this summer, two 8th graders from Bayside Martin Luther King, Jr. Academy in Marin City are looking forward to an academic adventure overseas before beginning high school at Tamalpais High School.

Caroline Moreno and Remy Rosenberg will spend six days per week in class and study at Oriel College in Oxford, England this July. This is of one of the oldest colleges at Oxford, established in 1326.

The two students will take field trips to nearby sites including Stonehenge and hear from guest speakers including Terry Jones of Monty Python fame, and Adam Allen, a NYPD anti-terrorism expert.

Caroline, who is interested in a future career in law enforcement, will be studying Law and Society as well as Studio Art. Her classmate Remy, who plans to study business in college, will spend the summer studying Drama and Business Communications.

They will learn in small classes taught by Oxford faculty and doctoral students as well as creative professionals from London and beyond.

Both girls were accepted into the program with partial scholarships awarded by Oxbridge Academic Programs and Growth Circles, a fiscally sponsored project of Community Initiatives designed to provide Marin City students with life-changing travel experiences.

“Both Caroline and Remy have worked very hard to attain their impressive grades in school while managing their time across a wide range of extracurricular activities from athletics to attending conferences exploring various career options, to competing as part of our Mathletes team” said Jan McDougal, the students’ math teacher.

“I’m thrilled that they’ve earned this opportunity, and I know they’ll use it to prepare themselves for success at Tam High and beyond.”
