Raiders Starting Over, Excited About Season

Oakland, CA – The Raiders are anxious to begin this season. After two years of winning only four games, Oakland has another opportunity to start the year off right. This year it’s a new team with new faces and the Raiders begin their journey in Minnesota this Friday night for their first preseason game.

“We’re excited about getting this 2014 season started,” said head coach Dennis Allen. “I’m really looking forward to watching this football team go out and play on Friday night. I think all our guys are excited about it and ready to get this thing rolling.”

Allen made it clear that the first team will see a few plays and that he mainly wants to see what the younger guys can do in a live game. No one in particular is more important than the other. However, it’s a time to evaluate players and focus on who can adapt the best.

“I’m looking forward to seeing everybody,” Allen said. “I’m looking forward to seeing both the veteran players and the young players come out here and play. That’s how you find out what you have as a football team.”

Oakland spent a lot of money in the off-season bringing in veteran players including Maurice Jones-Drew and Lamar Woodley. Both players are excited about the upcoming season and can’t wait to get on the field. While the veteran players may not get much playing time, they look forward to seeing their teammates get the job done.

“The ultimate goal is to be playing ball in January and ending in February,” said Woodley. “Our defense is definitely coming together and in training camp you can fully see the ability from all and we’ve been going at it.”

“I’m very excited to get this year underway especially after the season I had last year,” Jones-Drew said. “To get out there and get a couple of carries, get tackled a little bit and participate in some live drills is the best part and we’ll progress from there.”
