The Vallejo Housing Authority (VHA) will be receiving funding to provide tenant-based rental assistance vouchers to 13 homeless veterans. The vouchers will be provided through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing (VASH) Program that combines rental assistance from HUD with case management and clinical services provided by Veterans Affairs Medical Centers (VAMCs).
In the HUD-VASH program, Veterans Affairs Medical Centers provide assessments of Veterans experiencing homelessness prior to referring them to local housing agencies. Decisions are based on a variety of factors, most importantly the duration of homelessness and the need for longer term, more intensive support in obtaining and maintaining permanent housing.
The VHA currently has 25 HUD-VASH vouchers and this new allocation will bring the total up to 38.
