The Phoenix Project of Marin is presenting an original theatrical play, “Oh How Things Change”, written by Marin City resident Aleasher Hightower, on Friday, Oct. 17 at 8 p.m.

The play gives an eye-opening experience about the fast pace of street life but shows that it isn’t all that it appears to be. Although the fast life seems to be glamorous and a way to make quick money, the reality is there are dangerous consequences that come from this lifestyle.

Born in Marin City and raised in Richmond, California, Hightower’s passion for writing started in elementary school. She has observed life and used it as a tool to write stories.

“I wrote this play because I saw so many young girls that were resorting to prostitution as well as stripping,” says Hightower. “And that life eventually broke them down and lowered their self-esteem. That lifestyle has also taken once respectful young men and turned them into cold, selfish individuals.”

“Our young men don’t realize they are putting themselves at risk in so many different ways,” she says.

“My goal is to begin to change the mind of our lost youth. To give them a glimpse into the fast life, so that they can see that making the wrong choice is a definite life of destruction and chaos.”

The Intermission Act will be provided by rapper Ant Dog presenting “Domestic Trials of Life.”

The play will be held at the Manzanita Recreation Center, 630 Drake Avenue in Marin City. Admission is free to the public, for ages 15 and older or with parental supervision. Food and beverages will be available for purchase provided by Carlos Williams’ Let’s Eat Grill Stop.

This event is sponsored in observation of Domestic Violence Awareness Month with funding support from the Marin Health & Human Services, Preventing Intimate Partner Violence in Marin, and the Marin City Community Services District.
