Libby Schaaf will be publicly sworn in as the 50th mayor of Oakland, 3:30 p.m., Jan. 5, at the Paramount Theater of Arts, 2025 Broadway. The inauguration will also include the ceremonial installation of seven other elected officials.
The ceremonial oaths of office will be administered by City Clerk LaTonda Simmons.
City Councilmembers who will be sworn in include: Abel J. Guillen (District 2), Annie Campbell Washington (District 4) and Desley A. Brooks (District 6). Brenda Roberts will be sworn in as City Auditor, succeeding Courtney Ruby who lost a bid for mayor.
Oakland Board of Education members slated to be sworn in include:
Aimee Eng (District 2), Nina Senn (District 4) and Shanthi Gonzales (District 6).
This ceremony marks the start of a week of Schaaf’s inaugural activities including a citywide business breakfast hosted by the Oakland Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce; City Camp Oakland innovation summit; Oakland Service Saturday; and visits to various Oakland houses of worship before culminating in the “Made in Oakland” Inaugural Festival at American Steel Studios on Sunday, Jan. 11.
