The Baron Arnold Quintet will appear Sunday, Jan. 18, 5 p.m., at the Soundroom, 2147 Broadway in Oakland.
Baron Arnold, a newcomer to the Berlin, Germany music scene, has quickly established himself as a dominant up-and-coming voice on the trombone.
Originally from Oakland, California, he started playing the trombone at the age of 10 because it was “the only instrument left in the band room.”
Not letting this discourage him, Baron quickly took to the instrument and within less than a year of playing, was given a Command Performance award for his age group in the City of Oakland’s Solo and Ensemble Competition.
For his bachelors degree, Baron was accepted to study Jazz Performance at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music in Ohio, where he studied with world renowned trombonist Robin Eubanks.
After graduating last spring from Oberlin, Baron moved to Berlin to begin studying for his Masters degree at the Jazz Institut Berlin.
In addition to Arnold, the quintet will feature Chase Jackson, Ian McArdle, Giulio Cetto, and Isaac Schwartz.
