Dr. Yosef A. A. Ben-Jochannan passed away at the age of 96.
He was the world’s foremost Egyptologist. He authored 49 books that challenged popular and often derogatory notions about the continent and people of Africa, including “African Origins of the Major Western Religions”.
Dr. Ben, as he was universally known, made his ancestral transition while receiving special care in a New York nursing home.
He was preceded in death by two of his children and three wives. He is survived by 11 children, countless grandchildren, great- and great-great-grandchildren.
A memorial was held on Sunday, May 3 at Wo’se Community in Oakland.
